A Divemaster internship on Roatan can change your life; it changed ours! We (Mal, Martín and Sofía) chose Roatan to be our Divemaster training location. 14 years later… we’re still here and running our own dive operation!
Chances are, Sun Divers isn’t the only dive center you are researching as you look for the ‘best’ place to take your Divemaster course, and you’d be right. Ideally, you will have around 6 weeks available to take the internship (up to 2 months is even better), so you will want to choose a dive center you’ll feel comfortable in, with a group of instructors that you can relate to, learn from and have fun with!
At Sun Divers we are more about quality than quantity; it is not our intention to have as many Divemaster trainees (DMT’s) as we can. So, 2 DMT’s at any one time is our maximum to ensure that each student receives the necessary time, instruction, practice and experience with plenty of real assisting with our clients.
We know location matters, too, and being right on the beach, within walking distance of all types of accommodation (from budget to high-end) and having great on-site facilities such as food/drinks and paddle boarding, we love ours! We’re sure you will too.
The PADI Divemaster course is the most comprehensive and recognized first step to becoming a dive professional. During your internship you will perfect your underwater skills, learn how to lead certified divers from the moment they walk through the door and assist your instructors with a variety of PADI courses from introductory and refresher dives to Specialty courses and Advanced dives.
A Divemaster internship takes a little time. The full list of certification requirements can seem daunting at first, but with the guidance of your experienced instructors you’ll meet each challenge prepared, briefed and confident.
At Sun Divers we believe in teaching our DMT’s with the future in mind. You might well want to stay on Roatan and find a job immediately after your course, or enrol in the Instructor Development Course (IDC). For these reasons, we include PADI Enriched Air Diver certification as part of your course, as well as basic boat handling, simple equipment repairs and underwater photography practice. We also ensure that your knowledge of the reef and its inhabitants is strong thus enabling you to feel confident in your new role as a PADI Divemaster.
Prerequisites: Minimum of 18 years of age, 40 logged dives, PADI Rescue Diver certification (or equivalent from a recognized agency), current EFR certification (or equivalent from a recognized CPR/First Aid program) and Medical Statement completed by the applicant and signed by a physician.
